The Broken Hill Proprietary (BHP) undertook the activities of mining silver, lead and zinc deposits in New South Wales, Australia. The Growth Strategies BHP Billiton drives its growth based on a strategic framework of seven key value drivers. Based on these value drivers, the group has formulated growth plans for each of its Customer Sector Groups. By September 2001, BHP Billiton had invested $565 million in growth projects. In early 2002, BHP Billiton extended its petroleum exploration to Brunei. Commenting on this exploration,Philip Aiken, President and Chief Executive Officer of BHP Billiton Petroleum, said, "It adds value by expanding our growth opportunities with high-margin oil prospects in a new, lightly explored area where we can apply our proprietary skill base and specialized experience"...
